Dragon Wings

Overview

I have always loved Halloween, and wanted to do something special for 2018. I started designing these wings in Fusion 360, which took a while because I needed to get the correct lengths and angles to ensure the wings would open and close properly.

These wings were then hand cut and drilled for bolts.

They were attached to a main plate, which would be on my back. A gearing system was put into place to allow a single linear actuator to drive both wings. When fully extended these wings have a wingspan of around 12 feet. Covers were then sewn out of a scale fabric, replicating tru dragon wings. These covers were then adhered over the wings to hide the motion arms. Using a toggle switch on my waist, I was able to control the wings allowing for easy movement.
